Inter-AS MPLS VPN Option A is the simplest approach for establishing MPLS VPN connectivity between different Autonomous Systems (ASes). It involves direct VRF-to-VRF peering between ASBRs, where customer routes are exchanged as traditional IPv4/IPv6 prefixes using eBGP. Since there is no MPLS label exchange between ASes, each AS maintains full control over its routing policies and security, making Option A a highly secure but less scalable solution.
While this method is easy to implement and troubleshoot, it requires separate VRF configurations on both ASBRs, leading to higher operational overhead as the network grows. Due to these limitations,
Option A is best suited for small-scale Inter-AS MPLS deployments where security and control are prioritized over scalability and automation.
