Unlike simpler distance-vector protocols, OSPF’s link-state mechanism ensures each router has a complete network topology, leading to optimal path selection. In SP environments, multi-area OSPF design is crucial for scalability, reducing routing overhead and improving stability.
Additionally, OSPF supports MPLS integration, providing IP reachability for label distribution protocols like LDP and RSVP-TE.
With advanced features like LSA filtering, route summarization, and fast SPF calculations, OSPF remains a key component of high-performance carrier-grade networks.
