CCIE Security - VPN GRE VPN over IPSEC

GRE over IPsec combines the simplicity of GRE tunneling with the robust security of IPsec. GRE encapsulates diverse network protocols within IP packets, enabling transport over any IP network.

IPsec then encrypts this GRE traffic, providing confidentiality, authentication, and integrity. This combination allows for secure tunneling of various protocols, including non-IP ones, over untrusted networks. GRE over IPsec is commonly used for secure site-to-site VPNs, protecting diverse traffic types between networks.
